Periodontal diseases are inflammatory diseases 70% of tooth loss is caused by periodontal problems. Gingival(gum) health and treatment promotes easier chewing and better digestion. Gingivitis which is imflammation of gums is the early stage of periodontal diseases. In this stage bleeding of gums, redness and swelling can be seen. It may not disturb the patient except bad breath (halitosis). If not treated, it may cause the inflammation of periodontal tissues giving irreversible harm to gums and alveolar bone (jaw bone).

There becomes spaces (periodontal pockets)between the tooth and gum where bacteria can easily settle. As the disease progresses, tissue loss ocuurs and the teeth begin to shake resulting in tooth extraction.
